The Parish Council owns the Recreation Field at Markets Heath and regularly reviews the equipment at the Playground. Small repairs to the fence and gate are undertaken when necessary, internal hedges are trimmed and the trees are surveyed. The litter bin in the Playground is provided by the Parish Council.
Dogs are not allowed on the Recreation Field or in the Playground area. The car park is the responsibility of Kent County Council, although the Parish Council mows the verge by the road and by the fence.
The 1st Brenchley & Matfield Scout group provides Scouting for young people from 8 years of age and is based at our headquarters on the edge of the park in Brenchley.
Our highly popular Cub pack sees children aged 8 to 10 enjoying activities including camping, cooking, creating and regularly revelling in the great outdoors at the scout-owned Lordship Woods near Horsmonden. They meet on a Tuesday evening and enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, whilst working towards their various cub badges.
Following on from cubs, our Scouts aged from 10 to 14 meet on a Friday evening with the underlying aim to empower them to make a positive contribution to society. Activities including First Aid, swimming, cooking and camping (including how to safely use a knife, axe and saw!) have provided our scouts with a wealth of new and different experiences.
In the past, we have also run a successful Beaver group but unfortunately we are currently without a Beaver leader. Through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives. If you are interested in getting involved we would be delighted to hear from you.
