St Luke’s is part of the United Benefice with St Mary's Lamberhurst and is in Paddock Wood Deanery in the Anglican Diocese of Rochester. It is a Grade 2 listed building, built between 1874 and 1876. Situated two miles north east of Tunbridge Wells on the B2160, the church is on the outskirts of the village. The church is in the Gothic style and consists of a chancel, nave, south aisle, north porch and low western tower containing one bell, seating approximately 230 people. Parish meetings and events are held in Matfield Village Hall, which is a modern accessible venue with car parking further in to the village.

Matfield as a village church is a eucharistically centred broad-based church and reflects a traditional Anglican ethos, with the first Sunday of the month an All Age Service including modern music. It tries to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of belief and biblical interpretation, and people of all Christian denominations are invited to share in the Eucharist. There is an open policy on Baptism and all Baptisms take place monthly within the main Sunday morning service. At present children do not receive Communion before Confirmation.
