Crittenden Road closure dropped

Kent County Council has changed its improvement plans for the A228 at Colts Hill in response to public demand.

A proposal to close Crittenden Road from the A228 junction has been dropped after residents voted overwhelmingly against it. Of 143 replies, 104 were against the closure, 37 were in favour.

Other options to improve safety are now being considered, following consultation and a public exhibition held locally.

They include widening the road to allow lorries to pass on the bends close to Badsell Road roundabout, as well as extra chevron signs and verge marker posts; improved signs, and line markings at the Whetsted Road junction.

Kent County Council cabinet member for highways Nick Chard said:

“Most residents have made it clear that they don’t want Crittenden Road closed. Kent Highway Services said they would listen to residents’ views. We have listened, and that is why we have changed our plans.”
