Brenchley Choral Society
This choir formed in 1996 to perform a “Scratch Messiah”………..and has re-formed itself every year since!
Under the expert direction of Marjorie Ayling, we assemble each Spring for just ten rehearsals leading up to a performance in All Saints’ Church in Brenchley, accompanied by a full, professional orchestra in front of a packed audience.
Over the years, we have performed many major works, including Haydn’s Creation, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Faure’s Requiem, as well as Selections of Opera Choruses and Traditional Folk Songs.
Our primary aim is to provide the platform for anybody, regardless of experience, who has ever wanted to sing with a large choir and professional musicians.
Our secondary aim is to raise money for local charities and, once the substantial costs have been met by subscriptions and ticket sales, any surplus, totalling thousands of pounds over the years, has been sent to Hospice in the Weald, Kent Air Ambulance, Alzheimer’s Society, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Headway, among others.
The beneficiary this year will be the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
This year, we will be performing Haydn’s ‘Little Organ Mass’ and a short orchestral piece, with Fauré’s ‘Requiem’ after the interval
Rehearsals (normally on Mondays) begin on Monday, 8th February in Brenchley School, with the performance taking place on Saturday, 24th April.
Subscriptions are £35 (including provision of choral scores), and tickets are available from Brenchley Post Office at £10 in advance (£12 at the door), but are free to all of school age.
New singers are always welcomed – no experience necessary, and no auditions required!
