Cricket has been played on the green at Matfield since the late 1960s or early 1970s. Prior to that, the cricket pitch was in what is now orchards behind Matfield house.

The club, based behind the Memorial Hall, was founded in 1928, fell into disuse during the 2nd. World War and was resurrected in the 1970s. From that time it has gone from strength to strength.
