Elizabeth Akenhead

Born in Tanzania, with parents in the diplomatic service I spent my childhood and youth overseas and in Kent, and I have lived in West Kent since 1972. I have lived in the parish since 1991, first at Castle Hill and more recently in Brenchley village.

I was a civil servant in the Department for Trade and Industry (in the course of which I was private secretary to two junior ministers and then assistant private secretary to the Secretary of State) before I largely gave up paid work to raise our four children.  They have all now grown up and left home and we have four grandchildren.

My voluntary work for CPRE Kent the countryside charity, and as an access and bridleway officer for the British Horse Society, has given me experience of town and country planning and of public rights of way and highways law and practice.

I am a member of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and the parish Speedwatch Group.

I want to help the parish council’s efforts to preserve our beautiful countryside and villages, and to ensure that our communities continue to thrive.
